Let the hatching commence!

Egg number 4 - which 'pipped' last night.

Fantastic news... the first of the eggs transported back on 1st May has just begun the hatching process - watch this space for more exciting news soon!

10 eggs were driven back from Germany, arriving safely at the WWT Slimbridge rearing centre on Wednesday evening - with another 10 remaining in the incubation room at the Glambecker Mill in Brandenburg to be transported nearer hatching.

Harry has remained in Germany to keep an eye on the incubating eggs, while Amy and the seasonal team start to deal with the hatchlings.

Nige and I will collect a handful more eggs in the middle of next week and transport all remaining back to the England at the weekend.  We will be joined by Melanie Tomlinson, the crane project artist, employed by Somerset Art Works, Richard Archer the RSPB's Somerset conservation officer, and Sacha Dench  - head of PR for WWT Slimbridge, who is making a film on the work of the WWT in the project.   Harry will fly back from Germany as soon as we arrive to help Amy with the hatching... which should be happeneing thick and fast by then!
